BSc (Hons) in Biosystems Engineering
This is a four-year degree programme awarded by the SLTC Research University for those passionate about advancing their knowledge and pursuing a career in the discipline of Biosystems Engineering. Approved by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka (UGC), this programme imparts a thorough knowledge of the various aspects of the discipline and the skills required to progress into a successful career.
This degree programme aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the complex physical, biological, and social systems and their interactions involved in Biosystems and its related areas such as food production, food processing, bioprocess technology, environmental technology, and sustainable management of agricultural technologies.
It integrates several disciplines and professional areas of engineering, science, policy, and management. This enables its graduates to gain a better understanding of the various biological systems, issues and research needs for addressing problems and improving the outputs and efficiencies from diverse specialties and the application of such knowledge for the successful and sustainable management of various biological systems. Being a research university, all undergraduates of the programme will engage in research and innovation, testing real-life applications of their knowledge alongside their mentors throughout their period of study.

Eligibility Criteria
General intake
Three (3) simple passes (”S”) including two subjects of the following; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Higher Mathematics or Combined Mathematics, Agricultural Science, Science for Technology, Bio Systems Technology, Engineering Technology, Agro Technology, Bio-Resource Technology and any other subject in one and the same sitting at the GCE (Advanced Level) Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka or equivalent qualification.

PROGRAMME CURRICULUM
The Biosystems Engineering degree program at SLTC is a four-year undergraduate program that covers a broad range of topics in the fields of biosystems Engineering.
The curriculum includes courses in General biology, Material science, Biochemistry, Thermodynamics and Bioenergy systems.
In addition to the below listed modules, the Winning Edge Undergraduate Skill Development Programme of SLTC is offered to the students with the objective of producing multitalented professionals equipped with the necessary skills and competencies on the four skills of communication:
Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening, in English medium.

Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum based on the competency level of the students. Completion of this full programme is a mandatory graduation requirement.

Payment and Refund Policy
1 . Refunds – Registration Fee/ Down Payment/ Semester Payments
1.1. Students are refunded their registration fee/Down Payment in the following circumstances and all the refunds are facilitated only within a year.
a.Three (3) simple passes (‘S’) in approved subjects in biological science (biology, chemistry, physics) or physical science (combined mathematics, chemistry, physics) subject stream in one and the same sitting at the GCE (Advanced Level) Examination or equivalent.
b. If a paid student is selected to follow the degree under the MOHE loan scheme within the first semester
c. A qualified Doctor’s recommendation is given to the student, that the student is unable to participate in academic activities due to mental or physical conditions.
1.2. University Semester fees are refunded only when a student fails the GCE Advanced Level examination. In all other cases, students must pay the semester fee.
1.3. If a student gets selected to MOHE after the 1st Semester completion, the university will not refund the paid amount but will allow them to continue the degree as MOHE students.
2 . Invoicing
2.1. Invoices are raised based on the time of registration, prevailing discount schemes, and timing of the payment scheme selected by the student. Further, all invoices must be settled within the specified period mentioned on the invoice.
3 . Penalties
3.1. Management may charge penalty charges based on the late payment dates and the penalty rates will be changed based on the discretion of the management.
