Office of Sponsored Research

Bridging Academia and Industry

The Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) serves as a vital bridge between academia and industry, driving innovation and translating research into real-world impact.

The Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) connects academia with industry by securing industry-funded research that addresses genuine, real-world challenges. Through strategic partnerships and by aligning industry needs with institutional expertise, OSR enables research initiatives that are both impactful and solution-driven.

Core Responsibilities

Identifying and sourcing relevant funding opportunities, and aligning them with the institute's research priorities.

Negotiating terms and conditions that safeguard the interests of both the institute and its researchers, while ensuring adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements.

Supporting researchers in planning and drafting budgets and grant proposals to secure the funding necessary for their projects.

How It Works

A Structured Five-Stage Process

OSR–TTO's engagement with industry follows a structured five-stage process, ensuring that every research initiative moves smoothly from an initial challenge to measurable commercial outcomes.

01

Industry Need / Problem

Industry challenges and opportunities drive the research.

02

Co-Design the Research Project

Collaborative scoping and development of a customised research plan.

03

Research Execution

Expertise, facilities, and talent come together to deliver high-quality research.

04

Tangible Outputs & Deliverables

Prototypes, processes, datasets, reports, and validations.

05

Commercialisation & Impact

IP creation, technology transfer, scale-up and industry adoption, and publications that extend the reach of the research.

This structured approach ensures that every partnership delivers not only academic value, but tangible, real-world results for industry.
