EPU 1401 – English for Practical Use

01

The EPU 1401 English Programme is a compulsory course for all undergraduate students at SLTC, and successful completion of the programme is a graduation requirement.

02

The programme has been designed to provide students with the flexibility to develop their English language proficiency at their own pace through a digitized, LMS-enabled self-learning platform. Featuring interactive, learner-centred content, the platform promotes independent language learning while effectively complementing classroom instruction.

03

In addition to language development, the programme incorporates a range of skill development tasks aimed at enhancing students' communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and professional competencies. Students also receive personalized academic support from CCSD lecturers through scheduled individual and group consultation sessions, enabling them to address their specific learning needs and achieve the required competency levels.

Furthermore, the curriculum is aligned with internationally recognized English language proficiency standards and is structured to prepare students for examinations such as IELTS and PTE Academic, equipping them with the language skills required for higher education, employment, and global opportunities.

Business Communication I & Business Communication II

These discipline-specific courses are tailored to the needs of the faculty and aim to develop the communication, academic, and professional competencies necessary for students to succeed in their studies and thrive in modern business contexts.

CSD 2301 - Effective Communication

Effective Communication is a compulsory three-credit module offered by the Centre for Communication Skills Development (CCSD). The module is designed to enhance students' communication competencies for both academic and professional contexts.

The course focuses on developing academic literacy, enabling students to adapt their communication styles to diverse audiences, and fostering an understanding of ethical and social responsibility in professional environments. It also promotes self-awareness by encouraging students to identify their strengths and apply them effectively in dynamic academic and workplace settings.

Through a combination of critical thinking activities, experiential learning, and practical application, students strengthen their written and oral communication skills, develop the ability to undertake and present research effectively, and build the confidence required to navigate professional interviews and other workplace communication scenarios.
