The SLTC Research & Innovation Awards 2025 recognize excellence in research, development, and innovation across Sri Lanka’s industrial sectors and within SLTC ’s own staff & student community.
Research and innovation often involve navigating complex challenges, exploring uncharted ideas, and turning discoveries into real-world impact. Within Sri Lanka’s vibrant research ecosystem, both industry and academia play a central role—driving discovery, fostering innovation, and contributing to solutions that benefit society and the economy. But are these achievements always celebrated? With the SLTC Research & Innovation Awards 2025, they are!
The awards are designed to address the gap in visibility and recognition for industrial and academic R&D efforts. This initiative provides a platform to highlight outstanding contributions, foster industry-academia collaboration, and strengthen Sri Lanka’s national research ecosystem.

Scope & Structure
The program consists of two main components.
- Industry Awards
- SLTC Staff & Student Awards
This structure supports knowledge exchange and collective impact by bringing together commercial innovation & academic inquiry.
Industry Awards
These awards recognize R&D done by commercial enterprises operating in Sri Lanka. Focus is on R&D with commercial potential, collaborative research, & intellectual property generation.
- Open to legally registered companies in Sri Lanka.
- Eligible activities include in-house or collaborative R&D, research commercialization, publications, and patents across 8 industry sectors.
- Research must have been conducted between 30th June 2022 and 30th June 2025
SLTC Staff & Student Awards
This category celebrates the work of SLTC staff and students who have demonstrated research excellence across various domains.
- Recognizes achievements such as research publications, patents, and research impact.
- Most awards consider work from 30th June 2022 to 30th June 2025; some are based on career-long metrics.
- Applicants must be full-time staff with at least six months of continuous service at SLTC.
