SLTC Vice Chancellor Prof. Veranja Karunaratne represents the Government of Sri Lanka at a regional consultation meeting of the Global Digital Compact (GDC)

Prof. Veranja Karunaratne, SLT Campus Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the National Science and Technology Commission, represented Sri Lanka at the Global Digital Compact (GDC) regional consultation hosted by Bangladesh and the BIMSTEC Secretariat on June 22-23. The meeting aimed to align regional priorities and strengthen a unified stance on digital technologies ahead of UN negotiations in New York. Government officials and experts from BIMSTEC member states participated to discuss the opportunities and challenges of digital technology. The goals were to develop a shared vision for the GDC, exchange ideas, and create actionable recommendations for the ongoing UN negotiation process. Read the full story here:

Dr. Christian Peters, Managing Director, Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) Conducts Seminars on German Higher Education System and AI in Higher Education under the ERASMUS+ Project SSAPI

As part of the European Union funded project “Strategic Support for Accreditation of Programs and Internationalization at South Asian Higher Education Institutes (SSAPI). Dr. Christian Peters has been leading two highly anticipated training sessions at SLTC. These sessions focus on navigating the German Higher Education Landscape and Exploring the Prospects and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Higher Education. Dr. Peters, a distinguished expert in social science has been providing comprehensive seminar on navigating the German Higher Education Systems. His session has attracted students and young faculty members of SLTC. In addition to German higher education, Dr. Peters led a session on the prospects and challenges of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education. As AI continues to revolutionize various sectors, its impact on education is profound and multifaceted. The SSAPI project aims to elevate the standards of higher education in South Asia by providing strategic support for the accreditation of academic programs and promoting internationalization. The inclusion of training on German higher education and AI reflects the project's commitment to equipping South Asian institutions with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in a global academic environment.

The International Conference on Accreditation and Internationalization in South Asian Higher Education Institutions

The International Conference on Accreditation and Internationalization in South Asian Higher Education Institutions was held at the Higher Education Commission (HEC Secretariat), Islamabad, Pakistan on 04 June 2024. Dr Zia Ul-Qayyum, Executive Director of HEC graced the event as the Chief Guest. The conference was organized jointly by the Quality Assurance Agency, HEC, and FAST- National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Pakistan. The gathering marked the culmination of the ERASMUS+-funded project titled “Strategic Support for Accreditation of Programs and Internationalization at South Asian Higher Education Institutions”, where SLTC is a partner Institution. Presenters from Portugal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan shared their insights and recommendations on internationalization and accreditation in HEIs. The event attracted approximately 100 attendees from various universities, with over 100 participants joining online. SLTC is represented by Dr. Deepika Priyadarshani, Dr. Lasith Yasakethu and Ms. Chamari Ketakumbura.

Migara Amithodhana, CEO and Co-founder of Magicbits, signed an MoU with SLTC to offer internship opportunities. Magicbits has already demonstrated its commitment to talent nurturing by providing permanent employment positions to SLTC graduates. Aklan International Pvt Ltd Eng Ravi Rupasinghe signed the MoU with SLTC. Since 2020, SLTC students have had the privilege of undertaking internships at Aklan International Pvt Ltd, a testament to the company’s proactive stance towards nurturing talent. This collaboration not only provides students with invaluable hands-on experience but also reinforces Aklan International’s dedication to fostering industry-ready graduates. Prof Veranja Karunaratne, Vice Chancellor of SLTC, expressed confidence in the efficacy of these partnerships. WORKSHOP ON ‘HOW TO MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN’

A successful workshop for our Academic and Non-Academic staff in Admin positions on “How to Make Change Happen”; a crucial and timely topic in contemporary business organizations. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Deepal Sooriyaarachchi a renowned corporate trainer and chartered marketer in the country. This is an initiative of the ERASMUS+ ENACT Project Team of SLTC.
