The Faculty of Business Management, in collaboration with the Staff Development Center of SLTC, successfully conducted an insightful workshop on “Mastering Research Supervision, Examination, and Review” for the academic members of SLTC on 16th October 2025 at the Trace Expert City Campus. The session was led by Professor (Chair) Tharusha Gooneratne, Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo, and Senior Professor (Chair) Arosha S. Adikaram, Department of Human Resources Management, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo. The session focused on key areas and real challenges faced by supervisors, examiners, and reviewers. It highlighted how to guide and evaluate research effectively while maintaining ethical standards in academia.
The Edu Path Program by SLTC was successfully held at Taxila Central College, Horana, engaging the school’s A/L Technology stream students at the main hall. The session was conducted by Dr. Chamith Chandrarathna, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Applied Electronics, Faculty of Technology at SLTC, with the support of Dr. Nicoloy Gurusinghe, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. The program offered valuable insights into higher education opportunities, career pathways, and the practical applications of technology and engineering in the modern world. Through such initiatives, SLTC continues to bridge the gap between school education and the evolving industry landscape, empowering students to make informed academic and career choices.
The Department of Tourism Management at SLTC proudly organized its annual World Tourism Day 2025 initiative under the inspiring theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformations.” This year’s program took the form of a three-day community-focused field visit to Ethiliwewa, Monaragala District. The initiative aimed to promote sustainable tourism practices while fostering positive social, environmental, and economic impacts within the local community. The Department extends its sincere appreciation to all external partners, including the school principal and representatives from the Vocational Training Authority, for their valuable support and collaboration in making this initiative a success.
The SkillUp Sri Lanka program, conducted in collaboration with the Future Lanka Research and Development Foundation, was successfully held at Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena. Representing SLTC, Prof. S. R. D. Rosa participated as a panelist, guiding students on skill development, career planning, and exploring industry opportunities. Prof. Rosa is an esteemed council member at SLTC and a distinguished academic with a rich background in physics and education. Graduating with first-class honours in Physics from the University of Colombo in 1979, he later completed his Master’s in Science and Ph.D. on radioisotope research. Prof. Rosa was instrumental in establishing Sri Lanka’s first Cyclotron Facility, enabling the production of radioisotopes for medical use, primarily benefiting cancer patients. He has supervised numerous graduate students and has been a popular visiting lecturer in various academic institutions over the years. This collaborative initiative continues to empower students across the island, helping them build essential skills and gain insights into future-ready career opportunities while fostering strong connections between education and industry.
The SkillUp Sri Lanka program, conducted in collaboration with the Future Lanka Research and Development Foundation, was successfully held at Horizon International College, Malabe. Representing SLTC Research University, Ms. Baghya Eratne, lecturer from the Department of Tourism Management, Faculty of Business Management, participated as a panelist, sharing valuable insights on career pathways and opportunities in the tourism and hospitality industry. This collaborative initiative continues to empower and inspire students across the island, helping them discover future-ready career opportunities while strengthening partnerships between SLTC and national youth development programs.
The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the Emerging Scholars’ Research Programme 2024/2025, organized by the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies & Research (FPSR), was successfully held, marking another milestone in nurturing the next generation of researchers at SLTC . This event celebrated the achievements and dedication of our young scholars who embarked on their research journeys early in their academic careers, exploring new avenues of learning and discovery. The Emerging Scholars’ Research Programme is designed to introduce sophomore students to research through awareness sessions and long-term research projects, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for innovation. The Faculty of Postgraduate Studies & Research of SLTC successfully organized an awareness session on Intellectual Property (IP) Management and Technology Commercialization in collaboration with the National Intellectual Property Office of Sri Lanka (NIPO). The session was conducted by Mr. Nalinda Atapattu, Assistant Director (Information and Examination), and Ms. Amali Mudalige, Development Officer/Patent Examiner at NIPO. Participants gained valuable insights into the fundamentals of IP rights, protection mechanisms, and strategies for technology commercialization. The session empowered researchers and innovators to safeguard their creations and effectively transform ideas into real-world impact. A heartfelt appreciation goes to the NIPO team for their invaluable contribution and for inspiring our research and innovation community at SLTC.
SLTC students from the Computational Intelligence and Robotics (CIR) Research Lab, showcased their groundbreaking projects at National AI Expo & Conference Sri Lanka Ashini Rupasinghe and Melan Chathuranga presented “HEALE” — a smart lab assistant robot that navigates, interacts, and supports researchers in real-time for seamless laboratory operations. Shakil Arifeen, Ometh Perera, and Dilshan Pradeep introduced “Convera” — a cutting-edge AI-powered vision system that fuses real-time object detection, environment classification, and adaptive intent generation. Both projects embody the spirit of innovation, blending AI, robotics, and real-world impact. We are beyond proud of their dedication, creativity, and the way they represented our lab and university at this prestigious platform. These are the minds shaping the future of technology! SLTC was proud to be a part of the Tech Day EPIZTIMI’25 of Bandaranayaka College, Gampaha, which brought together students from all leading schools in the area. The event created a vibrant platform for Grade 12 and 13 students to explore new ideas, engage in technology-focused activities, and discover future opportunities in higher education. Junior student projects were also admired and awarded, adding encouragement and recognition to young innovators. SLTC joined in to inspire and guide the next generation of problem-solvers.
