BSc in Travel and Tourism Management

The Bachelor of Science in Travel & Tourism Management (General) Degree at SLTC is the ideal stepping stone for anyone who seeks to enter the exciting profession of tourism, travel, and hospitality industry in the modern digitalised world with a 3-year general degree. Whether to work as a professional travel or hospitality service provider, launch a similar venture of their own or promote tourism anywhere in the world, a sound knowledge of the industry is vital. In addition to learning about this diverse global industry, students of this programme will also be able to develop many transferable skills that are crucial to be successful in this industry. Our faculty is composed of well-experienced professionals and academics who guide students to navigate the challenges unique to tourism and hospitality management, train them in professional etiquette and ethics and expose them to the many facets of this industry.

Graduates of this programme will engage in a final project alongside the faculty and work with the industry on various projects throughout their studies. Internships are part of the curriculum and will be carried out in partnership with recognised organizations in the industry.

General intake

Minimum three (3) Simple passes (”S”) in any stream in  one sitting at the GCE (Advanced Level) Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka or equivalent qualification.

PROGRAMME CURRICULUM

The BSc in Travel and Tourism Management provides a comprehensive foundation in the tourism and hospitality industry’s key operational, managerial, and technological aspects. Students gain practical knowledge in Events Management, Facilities Management, Travel Operations Management, Hospitality Operations Management, and ICT in the Hospitality and Travel Industry, enabling them to manage diverse tourism services effectively.

The programme emphasises strategic skills through modules such as Tourism Planning and Sustainable Development, Airline Operations Management, Consumer Insight Marketing, and Service Quality Management in Tourism. Students also explore the digital dimension of the industry with E-Commerce in Tourism and develop essential managerial competencies in Project Management and Fundamentals of Research.

Practical application is central to the curriculum, with students completing a Project Report and undertaking an Internship with recognised industry partners. This blend of academic learning and real-world experience equips graduates with the skills, knowledge, and industry exposure to excel in various tourism and hospitality careers or entrepreneurial ventures.

In addition to the below-listed modules, the Winning Edge Undergraduate Skill Development Programme of SLTC is offered to students to produce multitalented professionals equipped with the necessary skills and competencies on the four skills of communication: Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening, in English medium. 

The modules are conducted in four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, based on the competency level of the students. At the start of the Winning Edge Undergraduate Skill Development Programme, students are placed into one of four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum, based on their current English communication skills in writing, speaking, reading, and listening. The programme guides students to improve step-by-step until they reach the Platinum level. Completion of the Platinum Level is a mandatory requirement for graduation.

Payment and Refund Policy

1 . Refunds – Registration Fee/ Down Payment/ Semester Payments

1.1. Students are eligible for a refund of their registration fee/down payment only if they do not meet the following entry criteria. All refunds must be requested within one year.

a) Minimum three (3) ‘simple passes’ (S) in any stream in one sitting at the GCE Advanced Level Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka or equivalent.

b) If a paid student is selected to follow the degree under the MOHE loan scheme within the first semester

c) A qualified Doctor’s recommendation is given to the student, that the student is unable to participate in academic activities due to mental or physical conditions.

1.2. University Semester fees are refunded only when a student fails the GCE Advanced Level examination. In all other cases, students must pay the semester fee.

1.3. If a student gets selected to MOHE after the 1st Semester completion, the university will not refund the paid amount but will allow them to continue the degree as MOHE students.

2 . Invoicing

2.1. Invoices are raised based on the time of registration, prevailing discount schemes, and timing of the payment scheme selected by the student. Further, all invoices must be settled within the specified period mentioned on the invoice.

3 . Penalties

3.1. Management may charge penalty charges based on the late payment dates and the penalty rates will be changed based on the discretion of the management.
