Prof. Senaratne Ranamukhaarachchi

He is a Senior Professor and a Consultant in the Department of Agricultural Technology at the Sri Lanka Technology Campus (SLTC). He obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Agriculture, specializing in Crop Production Systems, from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, awarded in 1978, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Agronomy with a specialization in Cropping Systems from the Department of Agronomy, Pennsylvania State University, USA, in 1983 and 1985, respectively, under the US/AED Program affiliated with the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, Peradeniya. Upon returning to Sri Lanka in 1985, Professor Ranamukhaarachchi resumed his academic career at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, contributing extensively to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research, particularly through the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture. __In 2000, he joined the Agricultural Systems and Engineering Field of Study at the School of Environment, Resources, and Development, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, where he engaged in teaching, research, and the supervision of graduate students pursuing Master’s and Doctoral degrees until 2012. He subsequently served as an International Consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations at its Asia and South Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok, coordinating a multi-country Sustainable Land Management (SLM) project involving Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka during 2012–2013. __ From 2015 to 2017, he contributed to the Biosystems Engineering degree program at the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM), Sri Lanka, before joining the Agricultural Technology Program at SLTC in 2018, where he continues to serve.__Professor Ranamukhaarachchi has made significant academic and professional contributions throughout his distinguished career. He has served as the advisor and also as a member of advisory committees of over 100 Master’s and Doctoral graduates, worked as a consultant for numerous national and international projects in irrigation, water management, and environmental development, and served as a manuscript reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals. His scholarly outputs include a substantial number of peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and development-oriented reports with the primary focus on productivity enhancement and facility development of major agricultural projects, cropping systems, land resource management, and integrated farming systems. He has also played a key role in developing undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in agriculture for the University of Peradeniya, the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, AIT, and several universities across South Asia.
