It is with pride and pleasure that I welcome you to the Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC)., and I hope that once you leave, you will take back memories and impressions that you will not find elsewhere.

Our campus is different. We do not only impart knowledge, but it has become an extension of who we are and what we have become. Our students are not just enrolled for classroom knowledge but to become all-rounders: in academics as well as learning life skills that make them decent human beings.


The SLTC is the only corporate-powered residential campus, located at the former SLT Satellite Earth Station at Padukka. Students live onsite and experience cohesiveness and camaraderie while enjoying the cultural and scholarly resources of a research university in a beautifully landscaped 36-acre property.

We also believe that staff-students interaction is the key to success in professional higher education. Therefore limit our intakes to ensure unanimity amongst our students. Our academic faculty is experienced and highly regarded. They have over decades of experience in their related fields and engage our students through exciting and modern teaching methods: Outcome Based Education and Problem Based Teaching. We also offer our students extra curricular activities that go beyond classroom study.

Vidya Jyothi Professor K.K.Y.W. Perera

Prof. K.K.Y.W.Perera, B.Sc. (Engineering),M.Sc., PhD, D.Sc.(Hony) is a Chartered Engineer, F.I.E. (SL), FIET (UK). and a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, Sri Lanka. Prof.Perera has been the President of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka and the General President of the Sri Lanka Association for Advancement of Science and also the Chairman of the Institution of Electrical Engineers London (presently IET), Sri Lanka Branch.

His research earned him SLAAS Merit award (1992). Professor Perera was conferred the National honour Vidya Jyothi (1993) by His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka for outstanding scientific and technological achievements including original research. He also won an Award for his Research from the National Science Foundation (2013) and received a Presidential Award in 2014 for the best invention in the field of Engineering completed in 2012. He also received from Sri Lanka Inventors Commission the DASIS award for the most outstanding invention (2015). Professor Perera was honoured with Eminent Engineer status (2015) by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka. The Sustainable Energy Authority honoured him with the prestigious “Blue Flame“award for contribution to Energy Policy Development (2015). In 2016, he received a Silver Medal at the Geneva International awards for inventions. Professor Perera has also been honoured with a D.Sc. (honoris causa) by the University of Moratuwa. He has authored over 50 papers and 3 books.

Vidya Jyothi Professor K.K.Y.W. Perera

Prof. Perera was the first (founder) Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Architecture, University of Moratuwa (1972). He was also the first Professor of Electronic Engineering in the Sri Lanka’s University system. Later he served as the President of the Katubedda Campus of the then single University of Sri Lanka. He has also served terms as Chairman of NERD Centre (founder); Chairman, Energy Conservation Fund (founder); Chairman, Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies; Chairman, Ceylon Electricity Board; Chairman, Sri Lanka Telecom Board; Chairman, Lanka Transformers Pvt. (Ltd.); Chairman, Computer Information & Technology Council (CINTEC) and in several other Boards including Lanka Electricity Company (LECO) and National Science & Technology Commission (NASTEC). He served for more than 10 years as the Secretary, Ministry of Power & Energy, which overlooked the entire energy scenario (Electricity, Petroleum, Gas, Bio-fuels).

K.K.Y.W.Perera is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Moratuwa and is presently (March 2018) its Chancellor.

Prof. Sunethra Perera

Professor H. S. C. Perera is a professor of Management and Entrepreneurship and the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. She started her academic career as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Economics in 1985 and laid all ground works to establish a Management Faculty to the University of Ruhuna and was appointed as the founder Dean of the Faculty in 2003. Also, she is working as member of advisory board of Saegis Campus and having more than 30 years of experience as an academic and more than 20 years of experience as an administrator of state Universities in Sri Lanka.

Prof. Sunethra Perera

She graduated with second class upper division honors degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Business Administration and earned Master in Philosophy Degree from the University of Ruhuna specialized in Marketing Management, Further, she has postgraduate Degree in International Management from Canada. So far, professor Perera has published and presented more than 60 articles in National, International Journals and conferences. She has authored 5 books. She served as member of editorial boards in Journals of Management and few international conferences in Sri Lanka and abroad.

Prof. S.R.D. Rosa

Prof. Rosa has been a very dynamic character in the Educational Industry and his considered as an excellent Physics Lecturer and an educator. Professor obtained his B.Sc. In Physics (Special-First Class), University of Colombo in 1979, M. Sc. In Physics, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in 1982 and his Ph.D.in Nuclear Physics; University of Pittsburgh in 1987.

Prof. Rosa has been lecturing since the year of 1980 to present, which marks nearly 38 years of academic lecturing. Currently he is serving as a member of the modeling group of University of Colombo, School of Computing which has won several national and international awards for their excellent research activities. He has an unparalleled capability of connecting Physics principles with events happening in day to day life and therefore students love to attend his seminars and talks.

Prof. S.R.D. Rosa

Few of the accolades won by the group are as follows: Nominated for the World Summit Award (WSA 2011), It is a global activity to select and promote the world's best e-Content and most innovative ICT applications, 2010: Merit- 10th International Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2010 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,2010, Gold Award at the National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA) 2010 organized by the BCS Sri Lanka Section.

Professor Rosa has been awarded many affiliations, few of them are he was a Member of the setting panel in G.C.E.(Advanced Level) physics paper from 1989 to 2003 and 2005 to 2013, President of Institute of Physics – Sri Lanka for the year 2004, 2005 and 2006, President of the University of Colombo Science teachers Association (2000 - 2009), Secretary of the Federation of University teachers Association (2006/07), ADB consultant on monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the new Physics curriculum for local G.C.E.(A/L) (from 1995-1996), Member/Consultant appointed by the Ministry of Education to prepare Physics syllabi for year 10 – 13 under new reforms (from 2005 to 2007), Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship tenable in UK - 2004 and many more. He has authored unique books which are very popular among Physics students and teachers. Initiation of all Physics related Olympiads competitions in Sri Lanka is his brainchild.

Professor Ashoka Polpitiya

Professor Ashoka Polpitiya is the Vice President for Academic Affairs at SLTC. He obtained his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 1996, his Masters and Doctoral degrees in Systems Science and Mathematics from the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, USA in 2000 and 2004 respectively.

He was the Director of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Division at the Sera Prognostics Inc., a biotechnology startup company where he was an initial member of the research and development team, in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA until he joined SLTC in October 2016.

								Ashoka Polpitiya

In the past, he has worked as the Lead Bioinformatician for Proteomics at the Transnational Genomics Research Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, as a Senior Scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), a US Department of Energy funded National Lab in Richland, Washington, USA, and as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics at the School of Medicine at the Washington University in St. Louis, USA.

Prior to relocating to US, he was with the Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Peradeniya as a probationary lecturer. Professor Polpitiya has been serving for nearly 18 years in the field of Engineering and Biotechnology.

Dr. Ajith Pasqual

Dr. Ajith Pasqual is a senior lecturer in the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Moratuwa (UoM) since 2001. From 2012 to 2015, he was the head of the same department and was the Director of Center for Information Technology Services (CITeS) at UoM during 2005 – 2015. He received his B.Sc. Eng. from UoM and M. Eng and PhD degrees from the University of Tokyo in 1993, 1998, and 2001 respectively.

He has founded a startup company Paraqum Technologies (Private) Limited, working in HEVC based Video Compression and Hardware Accelerated Network Analytics products in 2016 and is the CEO of the company. He is a visiting Senior Lecturer at SLTC since 2016..

Dr. Ajith

Dr Asanga Ratnaweera

Dr. Asanga Ratnaweera obtained his B.Sc. Engineering (honors) specializing in the field of Production Engineering, University of Peradeniya in 1997. He obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2004. Dr. Ratnaweera is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, and University of Peradeniya. He has been serving for nearly 17 years for University of Peradeniya as an academic staff member. He is also serving SLTC as a consultant and heading the Post Gradaute & Research Unit.

Further, Dr. Ratnaweera worked as a visiting professor in Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University, USA in 2010 – 2011.

Dr Asanga

Dr. Ratnaweera has authored several refereed journal and conference publications. His major research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Optimization, Image Processing, Automobile Engineering, etc.. Dr. Ratnaweera was awarded with the Australian Alumni Excellence Award for Research in 2014, Melbourne International Research Scholarship for postgraduate studies at University of Melbourne in 2000, Colombo Dockyard Prize for the best performance in Production Engineering, University of Peradeniya in 1997 and M. Amarathunga Prize for the best performance in the subject Strength of Materials, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya in 1997.

Dr. Shamil Appathurai – Snr. Manager Technology Strategy & Transformation, Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd.

Dr. Shamil Appathurai, has nearly two decades experience in the telecommunications and ICT industry field. He is currently Head of Technology Strategy at Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka’s National Mobile Network Operator. During his tenure at Mobitel he was instrumental in driving the transformation of Mobitel’s backhaul network from TDM-based microwave systems to IP-based fibre backhaul. He also spearheaded Sri Lanka’s first Mobile 4G demonstration in 2011, and the subsequent roll-out of the commercial 4G network in 2013. His work involves techno-economic modelling and analysis to ensure business feasibility for deploying cutting-edge technology in low ARPU markets such as Sri Lanka. He also worked as a Technology Analyst at the London Technology Network, where his work involved the commercialisation of technology for start-ups in the UK. He has also spent a significant part of his career at British Telecommunications Plc. (BT) in the UK, where he was part of the design and planning team for the upgrade of the UK’s fibre network, and gained significant experience in the regulatory and technology aspects of Long-Reach Passive Optical Networks. During this work, he also led consortium of researchers from Germany, Belgium, Ireland and the UK, in a project funded by the European Union on developing Long-Reach Passive Optical Networks for European deployment.

Dr. Shamil Appathurai – Snr. Manager Technology Strategy & Transformation,
									 Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd.

Dr. Shamil Appathurai is also involved in academia. He is an advisor and lecturer at the Sri Lanka Technology Campus (also known as SLTC). He was a research fellow at University College London. Dr. Shamil has received many awards and scholarships based on his research in telecommunications, including Winning the Institute of Engineering and Technology’s Annual Innovations in Engineering Award in 2007. He has authored or co-authored over 20 publications in international conferences and peer-reviewed journals.
