MSc in Wireless Communications
Conducted by the Centre for Telecommunication Research,
Faculty of Engineering
This MSc programme has been specially designed for those
who wish to be a part of this ever-evolving industry, which has seen a great increase in demand, both at home and abroad.
The programme benefits from the research strengths of
SLTC Research University, especially so through its Centre for Telecommunication Research (CTR). SLTC Research University has earned an international reputation for pioneering research in several fundamental and experimental work areas including underwater wireless communication, 6G, coding theory, advanced non-orthogonal multiple access technologies and radio frequency
energy harvesting technologies.
Conducted virtually by a faculty comprising distinguished academic members representing both institutes, the programme covers a wide range of content delivered via tutorials, seminars, activity-based learning, group discussions, panel sessions and inverted classroom
learning.

PROGRAMME CURRICULUM
1 year – Full time
1.5 years – Part time
Alternative Exit: Postgraduate Diploma in Wireless Communications
- Year 1
Digital Communications Systems (20 credits)
This module develops skills and knowledge in digital communications. On completion of this module, the student will have a comprehensive understanding of the complex relationship between bandwidth, modulation, coding, noise and interference, and effective data transfer rate.Sensors and Data Analytics (20 credits)
This module encourages the development of theoretical understanding and practical experience in wireless and sensor
networks.Radio & Optical Signal Propagation (10 credits)
This module looks at electromagnetic waves, their use in telecommunication systems, and the design issues related to
particular parts of the spectrum.Wireless Networks (20 credits)
This module encourages the development of theoretical understanding and practical experience in wireless and sensor
networks.Advanced Signal Processing (20 credits)
This module aims to develop an advanced understanding of techniques and practical experience in industry-oriented applications of digital signal processing.Research Skills (10 credits)
This module prepares students to conduct their research projects and deliver the required skillset for the successful completion of their investigations. It provides the skills required to formulate a project plan, design experiments, mitigate against uncertainties and deliver a comprehensive description of results.Modelling and Simulation (10 credits)
This module is designed to introduce coding for scientific computation and system simulation. The module will enable students to use a traditional high-level programming language to create virtual
Instruments (VI’s) and interface them with compatible hardware for data acquisition (DAQ) and control applications.Professional and Leadership Skills (10 credits)
This module provides a valuable opportunity for engineering graduates to acquire the necessary skills and training to work at postgraduate level and to develop the important emotional competency skills needed to excel in their professional activities.MSc Dissertation (60 credits)
The main aims of the project module are to demonstrate the student’s ability to conduct their thorough investigation, undertake high-quality academic research and demonstrate critical evaluation of their results. This is a very important module representing 600 hours of self-driven scholarly activity. When considering a project, it would be appropriate to choose a subject area strongly associated with one of the taught
modules. For most students, this means using the project to develop a particular
subject specialism which is aligned with future career objectives.Optional Courses
• 5G Wireless Communications
• The purpose of this module is to provide students with
• Machine Learning for Wireless Networks
• Satellite Communication
• Video Coding and Image Processing
• Principles of Machine Learning
