In conducting this academic programme, it will prove to be very beneficial to both the private and public sectors of the country, as an undergraduate degree, will equip the student with comprehensive knowledge and skills in the Journalism specialty, and thus increase existing proficiency. Armed with a sharpened intellectual ability – the student can in turn use their improved efficiency, creativity, and critical thinking skills to facilitate productivity, economic security, social progress, and sustainable development, in the country.

Hence, it can be simply stated that the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Journalism and Digital Media Studies Programme has been designed to enhance the skill set, of students, for career the advancement that aligns with the public and private sector industry requirements in Sri Lanka.

The programme revolves around the Institute’s vision and mission – ensuring that excellence in higher education and research is well within reach and the programme will provide the a student with the knowledge and human resource capabilities required to devise and drive new innovations and for entry into the Journalism related profession or to continue postgraduate studies leading to advanced degrees in the broad fields of specialization and finally contributing to enhance Sri Lanka’s economy and society.
